WNBA X Detroit

WNBA X Detroit

Concept

With the announcement that Detroit will welcome a new WNBA franchise in 2029 and with complications surrounding the revival of the historic Detroit Shock name, I began to imagine what a fresh identity for this new era of Detroit women’s basketball could look like.

This passion project explores a full rebrand from the ground up, along with early-stage marketing activations. I set out to create a team name, visual identity, and brand story that feel authentically rooted in Detroit’s culture, history, and energy. The resulting concept blends the city’s Motown legacy with the attitude and edge of the iconic Detroit Pistons “Bad Boys” aesthetic.
